What is the difference between latitude and longitude and eastings and northings?
They both seem to measure the same thing ie a certain location, but the measurement for latitude and longitude seems to be quite different from the eastings and northings measurement when taken from the same location.

- they're spelled different
- According to these two articles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easting_and_northing and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grid_reference eastings and northings are much more limited that latitude and longitude and are based on flat maps with linear measure (as in "reference points are 1 kilometer apart" but are more convenient for local use. Latitude and longitude are based on curved lines wrapped around the earth and reference both north and south from the equator and from the Prime Meridian, but calculations are more difficult because the scale changes with distance from the equator.
- LATITUDE R THE PARALLEL LINES WHILE LONGITUDE R THE LONG OR STRAIGT LINES BT I DUNNO ABT EASTINGS N NORTHINGS.........:-)
