how can i measure my latitude without technology or maps?

i've heard u have to measure measure the angel between the north star and the horizon but there's not horizon near by? how can i do it with no horizon near by?

  1. Just drop a weight on a string. Measure the angle between the string and a line to the North star. Subtract from 90 degrees, and the result will be your latitude. Example: measured angle is 59 degrees. 90 - 49 = 41. Your latitude is 41 degrees North. You might have problems measuring the angle to better than 2 or 3 degrees accuracy
